FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE is an action-RPG currently in development for PlayStation 4. It is a remake of the classic game, FINAL FANTASY VII. It will be released as a multi-part series and is a timed exclusive for PS4.
After many years of demand and rumours, Shinji Hashmoto, the FINAL FANTASY series Brand Manager approached key members of the original FINAL FANTASY VII team including Director Yoshinori Kitase, Character Designer Tetsuya Nomura & Scenario Writer Kazushige Nojima about finally doing the remake.
All four of them feel a deep love for the game and all felt they were getting older, and didn’t want to hand it off to the next generation to do.
FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE was leaked by Siliconera before being announced by Square Enix and Sony Interactive Entertainment at Sony’s E3 2015 press conference. Following the announcement, Square Enix’s stock prices rose to their highest rating since November 2008, and the announcement trailer quickly gained millions of views.
At PlayStation Experience 2015, Square Enix released a new trailer for the game revealing an early version of the game’s action-RPG battle system, a massive change from the original’s turn-based battle system.
After they also announced the game will be released as a multi-part series, Kitase explained this was being done so they didn’t have to remove anything and could add more content. They also wished to play the game sooner themselves.
FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE is being developed with Unreal Engine 4. Business Division 1 is working with many external developers including CyberConnect2, the developers of mobile game FINAL FANTASY VII G-BIKE.
Staff who worked on the KINGDOM HEARTS series and DISSIDIA FINAL FANTASY games are working on FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE including Mitsunori Takahashi.
