MOBIUS FINAL FANTASY was something Motomu Toriyama wanted to do for years

Motomu Toriyama, director of the most FINAL FANTASY games ever has revealed in the 2nd anniversary livestream for MOBIUS FINAL FANTASY that the game was his chance to finally tell a continuous, never ending story.

Toriyama explained that his favourite film series is Otoko wa Tsurai yo, a series of 48 instalments that ran from 1969 to 1995 each telling their own stories. Before Toriyama joined Square in 1994, he entered a big quiz competition with questions and quotes from the movies and won first place.

The films inspired Toriyama to write his own stories and he saw video games as the way to do so. MOBIUS FINAL FANTASY was his chance to finally tell a continuous story similar to the movies.

Toriyama also revealed he meets up with scenario supervisor Kazushige Nojima once a week for work on MOBIUS.
