If the past few years at Square Enix weren’t weird enough 2017 has kicked off the weirdest year in Square Enix history.
In a video message from Square Enix developers from the first 4 Business Divisions, Motomu Toriyama appeared for the first time since 2014 (not including Kingsglaive special thanks and my autograph) with his old mate and head of BD1 Yoshinori Kitase.
Toriyama was introduced as the Director of FINAL FANTASY XIII and Kitase was introduced as the Producer of FINAL FANTASY XIII.
Toriyama looks back, he remembers it being a rainy day for one of the Asian FINAL FANTASY XIII events but a lot of people still turned up, this made Toriyama very happy.
Toriyama then mentioned that fans showed their passionate voices at the LIGHTNING RETURNS: FINAL FANTASY XIII launch event in Asia.
Toriyama added that he still feels a strong desire for localising games in Asia.
But then Toriyama revealed he is “incharge” of MOBIUS FINAL FANTASY and hopes to continue growing the game in Asia and hopes people give it a try.
Kitase chips in he’s working on FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE but it’s unclear if Toriyama is as well.
There’s no mention of Toriyama’s long in development project.
I have contacted Square Enix for clarification and will update when I hear back.
