Motomu Toriyama’s special FINAL FANTASY X/X-2 HD Remaster message translated

Like Yoshinori Kitase, Motomu Toriyama provided a special message for the Japanese release of FINAL FANTASY X/X-2 HD Remaster. The message is quite indepth and is very interesting so make sure you read it below. Big thanks to goldpanner for translating it.

Motomu Toriyama | FFX Event Director | FFX-2 Director

FFX and FFX-2 are both titles packed full of memories, but I was very happy as a developer that the International Versions were used as the base for this HD remaster. As we are now able to develop HD FF titles concurrently with the foreign versions International Versions no longer exist, and perhaps they could be called rarities from a time gone by.
FFX-2 in particular was from a period where International Versions were booming, and so all sorts of features were added in rich abundance. There is the Creature Creator, which add more variety to the already pop-esque aesthetic of the original title, and Last Mission, a brand-new, separate game. It involves an episode set after the events of FFX-2. It’s a short episode, but it depicts the parting of the Yuna, Rikku and Paine friendship and them departing on new journeys; a little something about the bitter-sweetness of youth. Back then I felt a little embarrassed, but now, with ten years having passed and I myself having grown up, it hit me anew how nice it is, the youth of Yuna and her friends. I remember speaking with scenario writer Nojima back then, thinking that the episode was perhaps too small-scale to serve as the ending of FFX. But, thinking about it now, I’m glad it ended on a personal episode about Yuna and her friends. That it was able to end on the note of friends dear to the heart.
The FFX series was the first time I was able to create characters that stayed in the heart quite like this, and so even to this day (to me, anyway) that title serves as a great rival, as I try to bring forth characters that don’t lose to Yuna and Tidus and the others. That’s why, if you have not yet played FFX-2 International Version, I would be so happy if you were to try this HD version. Please see if you can discover a new part of yourself, one you can only see now that you have grown up.
